Trending Topic- Flooding Basements

What's up Young & Free Michigan?

Oh my goodness! Did you get hit by the massive flood last week?

Our house did, I actually filmed myself after running to my car in the rain... It was so crazy! I was going to use the footage, but then I decided I looked a mess, and I re-recorded everything. I posted a snip of it on my Instagram.

The rain was coming down so hard, that when it stopped I thought I still heard it, nope- I was hearing water flowing through the shower in the basement,  flooding my basement.  I ran down stairs and picked up all the wires and boxes that I could save.

Thankfully we didn't have huge damage to our belongings and our landlord is really awesome.

But it got me thinking about things we should do to help prevent flood damage or loss.

Here are a few things that I learned and observed after the flood-

1- Get plastic bins to store things in, not cardboard boxes.

2- Invest in strong shelving units and use them!

3- Clean the basement on a regular basis.

4- Don't put your internet or cable server on the floor in the basement. If your office or computer room is in the basement , don't let any wires or cords sit on the ground.

Do you have any other tips you would like to share?

I hope your recovery from the flood is smooth and fast!

Keeping it Fresh, Young & Free,

Ebeth
