Hey Young & Free Michigan,
I don't know about you, but last week my newsfeed on social media was full of ice bucket challenges. I decided to wait to post my video for today's Trendy Tuesday!
This fad was started to bring awareness about ALS, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. I think this trend did just that! From my readings I have learned that, ALS affects nerves in the brain and spinal cord. It leads to not being able to control muscle movement and could lead to becoming totally paralyzed. Currently there is not a cure or treatment to reverse ALS symptoms, but there is hope.
During this ice bucket trend, I noticed it picked up a lot of haters, for various reasons. But, in all honesty, if those haters had a personal connection with someone who dealt with ALS symptoms the backlash, trash talk and haters would not exist. Let's remember that support encourages, comforts and brings hope to any situation.
Lastly, here is a quote from www.ALS.org about the ice bucket challenge,
"Between July 29 and today, August 12, The ALS Association and its 38 chapters have received an astonishing $4 million in donations compared to $1.12 million during the same time period last year. The ALS Association is incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support from those people who have been doused, made a donation, or both. Contributions further The Association’s mission to find a cure for ALS while funding the highest quality of care for people living with the disease."
Keeping it Fresh, Young & Free,
