Makeup Madness: How to Cut Down Spending on Makeup

Getting dolled up is all fun and games until you hear how much you’ll probably spend on makeup in your lifetime. From mascara to foundation, I’m convinced that Sephora and MAC are trying to make us all go broke.

The average lipstick from a professional makeup line costs about $20, alone. That’s not even considering the cost of foundation, concealer, eyeliner, blush, mascara, lip gloss, and eye shadow and all the other new beauty products on the market. Whew.

Take a peak at this video to see how much the average woman spends on makeup in her lifetime. And the number is over $10,000!

A few tips to trim down the cost of makeup:

Mix drugstore brands with professional brands.

You don’t have to buy every single product from Bobby Brown or Clinique. Some drugstore brands have great quality products like blush, lipsticks, and mascaras. No one really knows the difference once it’s on your face.

Don’t wear your really expensive stuff every day!

I have a drugstore foundation that I wear 75% of the time for my everyday, natural makeup look. That bottle only costs me around $10. Then, I have Nars foundation, which costs around $40, that I wear for special occasions. That bottle lasts forever!

Try to minimize how often you wear makeup.

Not only will this cut down on the amount you’re spending, but it’s good to let your skin breathe. Taking care of your body from the inside out will prevent you from needing makeup on a regular basis.

Use makeup brushes.

If you know how to apply makeup with makeup brushes, it will make cheap products look flawless on your face. Plus, you won’t waste as much product.

Limit how often you look for new makeup.

Watching YouTube beauty blogs non-stop, and popping into Sephora once a week will certainly not help you save. Visit when you’re intentional about what you need to buy.

Be Easy,
