You know Benjamin Franklin? He was a pretty smart guy. He invented lots of things, and said smart things.
Some of the smart things he said pertain to working life, or really anything requiring motivation. Thanks to BusinessInsider.com for the sweet collection of Franklinisms!
"Well done is better than well said."
Do you find yourself sitting in meeting after meeting talking about stuff, but nothing ever seems to get done? Ben hit the nail on the head with this one. Instead of sitting around talking about stuff you're going to do, get up and do it!
"By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail."
Planning ahead can save you so much time and energy. How many times have you charged into something without thinking, and then made a gigantic mess of things? Always take time before a big project to prepare -- you won't be sorry!
"When you're finished changing, you're finished."
Sure, change can be unsettling and throw a wrench into our plans … but it's inevitable! Your best bet is to stop fighting it and find ways to adapt the change to something that works for you. You'll waste less energy and feel like you have more control. WIN-WIN.
"Never confuse motion with action."
You're always running around like a chicken with your head cut off, right? Meetings, events, crazy random happenstances … but does anything really come of all of this busywork? Try to cut down on the amount of stuff you do that has no discernible advantage.
