October 26th, this upcoming Saturday, Michigan First Credit Union will be hosting a Shred Day.

What’s a Shred Day?

This is an event where you can bring any old, personal or confidential information into the branch to be DESTROYED!!! (Shredded.)

Why is shredding important?

If you haven’t watched the video the Young & Free St. Louis spokester, Caressa and I made than you should. It demonstrates that you should NEVER EVER throw away important information or information you NEVER want anyone to see, into the trash. That includes papers with your social security number, debit or credit card info, and ANY other personal information. I found a list on BB&T, giving further insight as to what should be shredded:

People can easily go through your trash and use that information to steal your identity. And even if your trash gets taken out and you literally see the garbage men take it away in a big black bag, that doesn't mean it’s been safely disposed. Your trash will still go through a various amount of places before it ever gets to a landfill or incinerator. So how do your protect this vital information? This is where shredding comes in. Shredding your information before you toss it ensures that it’ll be illegible.

So where do you go to get your shred on?

YOU COME TO THE MICHIGAN FIRST CREDIT UNION EVERGREEN BRANCH, THIS UPCOMING SATURDAY, OCTOBER 26TH, ANY TIME FROM 11 A.M. TO 1 P.M.

You can bring up to 4 bags or boxes of paper only, nothing with metal, staples or paper clips.

What’s the cost of having your papers shredded?

Either bring $5.00 or 5 canned goods. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Gleaners Community Food Bank.
