I couldn't tell you how many times I've heard the expression "life is short" or the expression "live like there's no tomorrow." Some of these sayings are said so much, they blow off of us like dust in the wind. Because seriously - how can any of us actually fathom how short life REALLY is until we've finished living it, right? It's hard to say.
But guys - life really is short. As in... this world is thousands of thousands of thousands of thousands of years old, and most of us, if we're lucky, will live until we're 100. So I mean... yeah, life is short in comparison.
So let me ask you this - if life is short, and we only have ONE life to live, why not do what we love? Why don't we pursue our passions and dreams? Why don't we do what'll ACTUALLY make us happy?
Well - there's tons of excuses we can use, like:
- I'm too busy
- It's too late for me
- Maybe I will
- I don't have enough money
- It's too risky
- I have no support; my family/friends don't believe in my passion
I know what you're thinking, "Great, Vicky. You told me to follow my dreams and THEN proceeded to give me all of the reasons why I shouldn't." No guys. That's not it. I want to let you know that those "reasons" really are just thoughts or excuses that are holding you back!
I'm too busy
You can find time to do what you love, even if it's only for a few minutes a day. Just don't let the fire burn out.
It's too late for me
It's NEVER too late - you can start anew whenever, at whatever age, no matter how many college courses you took on a given subject. SERIOUSLY. Maybe it isn't the "norm." But this is YOUR life - are you going to let the norm dictate your happiness and stop you from pursuing your passions?
Maybe I will
Forget maybe. Try, "I will, starting now." You've only got one life to live, so many moments. SO JUST GO FOR IT! :)
I don't have enough money
I understand - we've got bills to pay. Maybe you even have a family to support, and all of your money is being spent on the basic "day-to-days." But - your dreams are worth saving a little bit up for at a time.
It's too risky
Life is full of risks. Nothing in the world is even guaranteed to us. Shoot - driving is a risk. The weather is a risk. People are a risk. Maybe you'll try and it won't work out right away. That's life; thing's aren't always perfect. The man who created Hershey's failed more than twice before he created what he had a passion for, delicious candy. And what's a world without Hershey's chocolate, right?
Seriously, though - there's something even more risky than not putting yourself out there to follow your dreams; it's a bigger risk to have a chance to do what you love in this one life and just - pass up on it.
I have no support; my family/friends don't believe in my passion
People are only people, just like you. They have their opinions, and you have yours. Because they think something differently than you, does that mean you're wrong? Does that mean you should agree with them on every matter? Of course not! People disagree. And you should never, ever, let someone push you away from what you love. Follow your dreams - no matter who doesn't or does like it.
I know this was a longer blog. But it's actually pretty serious. This is YOUR life. Stop holding yourself back and just go for it! What do you love to do?
Until next time,
