Dorm Room Organization

Organizing your entire life in a 12 x 19 foot room that you have to share with a complete stranger is a tough task. I think the hardest part about it is the big bulky wood furniture that your room is already filled with. I personally didn’t have to live in a dorm, but I reached out to my Facebook friends and asked them how did they cope with the small space living. Here are a few things they recommended.

Space Bags

This is a great tip if you are going to school somewhere where the seasons change. Packing your out of season clothing in a xl space bag and hiding it under your bed will be a life saver! Oh and on that note, don’t forget to pack some fall and winter clothes!

Under the bed storage

Make the most of every inch of space you have! If you don’t have a bunk bed, purchase bed risers to give yourself some more space to store some plastic bins with your shoes, toiletries or emergency kits.

A great shower caddy

Whether you decided to get a regular, plastic bin shower caddy or a nylon hanging shower caddy, they are important. I would recommend getting a large hanging shower caddy. This way your products won’t all get wet and you will stay organized!

Stack-able milk crates

In such a small space any amount of clutter can get overwhelming. In order to avoid the clutter buy three or four stack-able creates, depending on your space. If you don’t have time to sort through something right when you get to your room, that’s ok, you can toss it in the bin for the time being. You can also use the bins as a pantry. Storing your chips and cups of noodles in the crates will be much more visually appealing and save a lot of space in your room.

Hanging organizers

For anything from shoes, food, clothes, or makeup, these little organizers can be extremely useful! My tip is to get one even if you don’t think you’ll need it. You will probably use it.

Pegboards

Depending on your dorm’s policy, this might not work in your dorm, but I think it’s a great idea! You can purchase peg boards from a home improvement store for extremely cheap. Then spray paint it whatever color you want, maybe even make it a piece of art. Then you have endless organizational opportunities!
