Benefits of Sleeping

I know you've learned how to stay awake without caffeine, but here's the deal guys: eventually, you NEED to sleep. Other than giving your body the chance to recharge after a long day and taking a nice, long mental break, there's actually A LOT of other benefits to plain ole sleeping, like:

Improving your memory

Your subconscious mind is LITERALLY "studying" and putting things together in your mind while you sleep. Not to mention, having a refreshed and recharged mind helps you keep your memory together while you're awake, too.

Creativity

When you're sleeping, your mind consolidates memories, making them more prominent, which can lead to creativity! A research study from Harvard University found that the emotional parts of memories become stronger during sleep, which can lead us to be more creative when we're awake.

Becoming stronger, faster, TOUGHER

Your muscles rebuild while you're sleeping. According to Dr. Stoler, “You give your body the chance to repair, recharge, and regrow during sleep...It’s the ideal time to replenish nutrients, and, since your body isn’t moving, it allows the muscles to repair themselves.”

Become better at dieting

According to Dr. Breus on Web MD, "You are eating more, plus your metabolism is slower when you are sleep-deprived." When we're running low on energy from lack of sleep, we'll often reach for sugar packed snacks and drinks to keep us awake. It's not easy to stick to a diet when you're having a hard time even staying up!

Not to mention the Health Website mentioned these other benefits you could experience from sleeping:

  • Better grades
  • Less stress
  • Curbed inflammation
  • Better attention levels
  • A longer life
  • Fewer accidents
  • Emotional stability

So seriously guys. I know we've all got a lot to do, and there isn't enough time in the day, but instead of trying to stay up until the wee hours of the night, GET. SOME. SLEEP. We all need it :). And you'll be happy once your head FINALLY hits that pillow!

Sweet dreams,

Vicky :)
