On Friday, I had the opportunity to sit down with a Michigan First Mortgage team member to ask him some questions about the home buying process. I learned so much! Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing some information with you about what it takes to get a mortgage and buy a home.
Credit scores MATTER when it comes to a Mortgage.
Unlike other loans (which may have more leniency for bad credit), mortgages can't be handed out to an individual with a poor credit score. Before you go house hunting, you’ll have to raise that credit score.
How can you do that? Several ways:
-Pay your bills on time
-Pay off the debt you have
-Take out a shared secured loan with Michigan First
-Check your credit score every year
-If your situation is confusing or you need help, consult with a financial planner. Michigan First has an awesome WealthManagement team that would love to help you.
Before you try to take out a mortgage, check your credit score and keep in mind: negative reports stay on your score for 7 to 10 years! YIKES!
If you have any other questions about helping raise your credit score or getting a mortgage, let me know and I will get you some answers!
