In case you've been living under a rock, "The Avengers" debuted this weekend to record numbers. I tried to see it last night, but it was sold out … at 9pm … on a Sunday night. REALLY?! This movie must be epic, and I can't wait to see it.
Disney stated that the movie opened even bigger than they had expected - it made $207.4 million! That's the biggest opening weekend in HISTORY. The previous record-holder was my darling, darling "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt. 2." The Avengers beat HP7pt2 by $38.2 million. Isn't that NUTS?
The movie set opening weekend records in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Central America, Peru, Bolivia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines and United Arab Emirates.
Bravo, Joss Whedon. I've been a megafan of yours since the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie:
and I'm sure you won't disappoint me when I see The Avengers! I'll add an editorial note to this post when I finally see it, but for those that have already: what did you think? Did it live up to the hype? Leave it here or over on Facebook!
