I hope this isn't the last time you guys get to hear from me, because I'm pretty interesting! Ever since I've started preparing for this contest, the phrase "young and free" has stuck with me throughout my day. What does it really mean to be "young and free"?
When I first heard the phrase, the first thing that came to my mind was being free to do whatever you please and being able to fall back on the excuse of being young. Partying all kinds of hours knowing I have a mid term at 8AM sharp the next morning. Sliding down the dormitory's stairs on a mattress just because you were bored and you could. Well, the last one I didn't do personally, but you get my drift!
Yet, as time went on, it started to shift. In what others ways as new adults can we be young and free? Then it hit me. As young people, with a little budgeting and planning, we all can be young and free of financial burden. I know we all have our weaknesses sometimes. I know mine are Wet Seal's $10 jeans!!! The way the economy is now, however, it's more important than ever to start establishing a strong financial planning for ourselves early on. It won’t be easy, but if I’m picked as the 2011 Young and Free spokesperson, I’ll be there with you every step of the way.
