8 Cheap Dates in Michigan that Put Dinner and a Movie to Shame

Dating ain’t cheap. Period. And sometimes, it can get boring because you run out of ideas. We all fall into the dinner and a movie trap. It’s easy. But it is indeed a trap. That simple date can quickly rack up to $100. And honestly, you’re not getting that much bang for your buck.

Monotony can kill the fun out of any relationship, and dating should be exciting! Here are a few creative ideas that get you more engaged with your S.O. (significant other) and create much better memories. It’s the summertime so the possibilities are endless! Oh, and they’re a lot less expensive, of course.

1. Festivals

Summer wouldn’t be summer without festivals. Cheap food, good music, and good vibes. You can stay as long as you want, and many of them have fireworks and other cool things. Here is a list of upcoming festivals in Michigan

2. Photoshoot

If you’re one of those artsy couples, or you love to stunt for The Gram with your boo… get cute together and go take some pics. You can coordinate outfits, walk the town, or find some secret locations to snap some shots. This is priceless - literally! You can create endless memories and it costs nothing. I promise, you will make your S.O. feel so special when you tell them how good they look in the pics! Oh, and if you don’t have a DSLR camera, just use your phone!

3. Baseball Game

Baseball games are so much fun. You can get tickets for as low as $12! And it’s much more of an experience than going to the movies. Get a good hot dog, some nuts, and enjoy some fun times.

4. Boating: Paddle-boating, canoeing, sailing

This is such a cutesy, romantic date to me. Many Michigan metro parks offer boating, and it usually costs around $15 and hour to rent. Um, YES! This is the perfect thing to do on a Saturday afternoon, or for an evening sunset.

5. Picnic

While you’re at the park having fun boating, you might as well pack a picnic. Picnics can rack up in price, to be honest. But you don’t have to pack a five course meal. And if you don’t have a picnic basket, line a small suitcase with some plastic bags or a clean blankets and roll with that. Pack some fresh fruit, chips and dip, some fresh lemonade or some cold cuts and call it a day. Keep it simple.

6. Drive-in Movies

I mean, if you wanna go to the movies, at least do it like this. And don’t forget to pack your own snacks.

7. Farmers Markets

These are some of my favorite things to check out! You can meet so many amazing creatives, buy cheap stuff that is great quality, and just have fun. Here are a list of farmers markets in Michigan!

8. Cook together

Pick a meal. And just do it. Cooking together is so much fun and it allows you to see another side of your S.O. This can also rack up in costs, so if you’re balling on a budget, pick something that is filling and cheap, like a good pasta dish.

It’s not hard to have fun, it just takes a little creativity. Your loved one will appreciate it!

Be Easy,
