It’s International Women’s Day folks. A day we get to sit back and marvel at all of the miraculous things women have accomplished. Women are to be celebrated simply because of our natural abilities and also because of the many things we work so hard for and the adventures, dreams, failures, and successes we’ve conquered. A great way to celebrate this day is by immersing yourself into the stories of great women. I have five must read books that will empower and inspire just about anyone!
1. She Caused a Riot by Hannah Jewell
This book is an ode to 100 forgotten women in history.
2. Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg
This book empowers women to work and take the lead in whatever field they choose. Sandberg explores why women’s progress in earning leadership roles has stalled and she explains the causes and solutions to this issue.
3. What I Know For Sure by Oprah Winfrey
For those of you who subscribe to O Magazine you’re familiar with Oprah’s column What I Know For Sure. This book is a compilation of all of her advice over the years.
4. Yes Please by Amy Poehler
If you’re familiar with Amy Poehler you know she’s super funny and so is this book. This book is smart, funny, and encouraging. It’s a book full of words to live by.
5. I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban
This book is a memoir of the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, Malala Yousafzai.
I think one of the greatest things about celebrating women is that fact that you can reflect on yourself. You can see areas where you rock and areas where you’d like to achieve more. On this day you get to look around and bask in the girl glory all around you. Happy International Women’s Day!
