4th of July Sales

It's almost Independence day and that means it's time for all the retail stores to have some crazy sales!

In the past few years I have had some great luck shopping at Old Navy, Macy's, Kohl's and the Salvation Army Family Store on the 4th of July weekend.

Before you run out to catch the sale think about your financial goals and reconsider your spending for the weekend. Because there are so many sales, you might spend more money that you would have on full price items, because of the crazy sale energy you get running through the mall.

My tips:

1. Avoid the mall at all costs, but if you must go to the mall only go to a few specific stores and give yourself a cash only spending limit.

2. Always search for an online coupon before you check out. I usually ask the cashier if they have any other online coupons I could use that day, and they are normally very helpful. I have gotten free products, and saved $10 or more at the register all because I asked them about extra coupons!

3. Don't sign up for the store credit card to get the additional 15% off. It's not worth it. Even if you plan to close the credit card after that purchase, it will not look too great on your credit score, so don't fall for that trick.

4. If you plan to shop, go in the morning when the stores open, avoid the traffic and spend the afternoon enjoying this beautiful Michigan summer weather with your friends and family!

Let's not forget to honor those who are currently in or have served in our military this weekend. Remember to be thankful for the freedom we have and the freedoms that we continue to strive for. Enjoy your holiday weekend and stay Young & Free!
