Hey! My names Marissa Clement. I am a 20 year old nanny and I currently attend Macomb Community College. My hobbies include adventuring out and traveling as much as I can. I absolutely love animals and sports. I'm extremely proficient in all things technology related. I'm quite a bubbly person and love to make new friends! :D

"The world is a book, and those that do not travel real only one page." said St. Agustine. Agreed! Traveling is one of life's greater joys. There are adventures to be conquered and memories to be made. How can you do so though without spending a ton of money? Well, I came up with a list of 5 things you can do to make your next adventure more affordable.
1.) Important apps
Apps like Groupon and LivingSocial provide discounted rates at hotels, restaurants and even for activities. If you download these apps a few weeks before your trip and check them every so often you could hit some deals! And, we all know the struggle with gas, how do you know you're getting the best price? The app GasBuddy will show the cheapest gas around you.
2.) Grocery shop
Eating out can put a big hole in your pocket. Going grocery shopping once you reach your destination is more cost efficient than going out to eat everyday. Even if you just grab simple things like cereal, mac and cheese, soup, bread and sandwich meat or microwaveable meals for no more than $5.00 each. This will be a lot less expensive than going for breakfast, lunch and dinner all for $10.00 a person each meal plus tip. You can even pack snacks from home. Also, a lot of hotels offer free breakfast while you stay!
3.) Student ID
If you're in school, don't forget your student card for student discounts. Make sure you ask wherever you go because the student discounts aren't usually advertised!
4.) Think outside the box for activities
Michigan is home to hundreds of free hidden gems. On websites like onlyinyourstate.com you can find millions of things to do here. Waterfalls, beaches, springs, dunes, you name it. Free adventures are the best ones. Kitch-iti-kipi is Michigan's largest natural spring which is located in the UP, it is one of my favorite places ever!
5.) Skip souvenirs
I know whenever I go on vacation I want every magnet and coffee mug I see. Skip it! Take photos and videos. These kinds of memories hold more sentimental value than a magnet and will save you money on your trip.
Have fun & happy traveling!
