Ever since the invention of the first game console in 1972, the Magnavox Odyssey, video games have become very prevalent in the lives of many children and adults. Playing video games can create a sense of joy and excitement and may also involve a high level of thinking as you learn how to play to complete objectives. To add, video games can enable you to connect and communicate with people from around the world who share a similar interest. Although video games help develop quick thinking, make fast analysis and decisions, the world would be better off without the invention because it inhibits social interaction in the real world, promotes violence and has many physical consequences.

First, it inhibits social interaction. From a real life observation my little brother plays video games for many hours and I forget sometimes he is even in the house. Instead of going outside to interact with other kids around the neighborhood, he would rather stay in the house all day playing a game. This lack of social interaction may prevent him from developing effective social skills to help maintain healthy relationships in school and in the real world.

Additionally, many video games today promote violence. According to the (Video Game Addiction) article, most school shootings in recent years have been carried out by hardcore gamers, and their games of choice were always dark and violent. Games such as Grand Theft Auto, Saints Row, Call of Duty and Gears of War promote nothing but violence and gang related activities that serve nothing but a negative influence in our society. According to the (Education) website there has been evidence that as little as twenty minutes of playing a violent video games can cause people to become less physiologically aroused by real violence. As we can see, video games serve no beneficial purpose.

Finally, the most important reason the world would be better off without the invention of video games are the physical consequences. One of these consequences include carpal tunnel syndrome which is caused when the main nerve between the forearm and hand is squeezed or pressed. In addition, playing video games for a long period of time can interrupt your eating habits. Instead of eating healthy meals, gamers may eat quick unhealthy snacks or go without eating. Lastly, playing video games can lead to migraines because of the severe concentration involved and strain put on the eyes and affect sleep patterns, causing more harm to the body.

In conclusion, while video games help develop quick thinking, make fast analysis and decisions, I believe the world would be better off without the invention of video games as it inhibits you socially in the world, promotes violence, and all of the physical consequences are the reasons why video games should be left out. Instead you can do something more useful such as reading, playing a board game, enjoying outdoor activities or exercising to maintain your health, have fun and stay educated.
